PE Masterclass - Sports Labs Visit
Mr Shingleton sent this report:
A group of PE students recently visited the cutting-edge Sports Labs at Canterbury Christ Church University as part of their PE Masterclass series. This trip involved all four secondary schools in the academy trust. The trip aimed to enhance their understanding of sports science through hands-on experiences and exposure to advanced facilities.
The day began with a nutrition workshop. Students learned about the importance of balanced nutrition for athletes and made their own energy balls using ingredients like oats, honey, nuts, and dried fruits. This hands-on activity taught them how proper nutrition can enhance sports performance.
In the afternoon, students participated in field testing activities that measure fitness components of high-level athletes, including sprint tests, agility drills, and endurance assessments. Guided by sports scientists, they saw how these tests help tailor training programs for elite athletes. Students were lucky enough to have a tour of some of the facilities including the Biomechanics Lab, Physiology Lab and Sports Rehabilitation Unit.
The PE Masterclass trip to the Sports Labs at Canterbury Christ Church University provided an enriching experience, blending theory with practical application. It gave students a comprehensive understanding of sports science's role in enhancing athletic performance and left a lasting impact, fuelling their passion for physical education and sports science.
