The morning concluded with a keynote speech by Dr Sanaw Sawanobori of Keissen University on the “Meaning of Food, which linked to this year’s theme of Food and Culture. After lunch the first of 21 counties started to make their presentations. Japan started the session off followed by Turkey, Thailand and Italy. The Invicta delegates would have to wait until tomorrow for their turn!
Students had been invited to tell the forum about their school and their local area. This was followed by a discussion of traditional v modern foods of their country. The World School Forum had asked for each delegation to also comment on solutions to modern food issues of convenience v health. They also wanted ideas on how to reduce the loss of culture as the consumption of traditional meals decreases as many turn to the use of pre-packaged, fast, unhealthy food.
