2017 Geneva Conference Day 2
The students were split off in to their various committee rooms today. They had a very productive day with each committee seeing their mock UN resolutions take shape. There was some intensive lobbying taking place as each country tried to push their agenda forward and there was a lot of give and take in the drafting and re-drafting of their proposals. All the debates are in French and English with real-time translation carried out by the students themselves (including two of our girls) in their sound-proof translator booths.
Our students are involved in:
- The Innovation Committee, discussing:
- The promotion of innovation and the sharing of information
- How to apply principles of intellectual property in sectors emerging in the fourth industrial revolution
- How intellectual property encourages the expansion of development and expansion of green technologies
- The Health Committee, discussing:
- Greater access to medical care, while respecting the property rights of the actors in medical research
- The counterfeiting of medicine
- Protection of patients’ medical information
- The Human Rights Council, discussing:
- Journalists’ rights of freedom of expression
- Inequalities and discrimination against LGBT+ populations
- The caring of street children
