Invicta Vlogs
I think we would all share the fact that, with recent events, it would be difficult to escape a very sombre national mood.
I think we would all share the fact that, with recent events, it would be difficult to escape a very sombre national mood. Indeed, it was mentioned in the Queen’s official birthday message this weekend. Likewise, I listened to a very moving interview from the husband of murdered MP Jo Cox on Sunday, where he discussed how his wife would be "incredibly humbled" by the 120,000 events that have taken place as part of ‘The Great Get Together’ initiative which has highlighted maybe, that as a country, we are "crying out" for a sense of togetherness. This hugely successful event was based on the message in Mrs Cox's maiden speech in Parliament that "we have more in common than that which divides us". Jo wanted to bring people together, of different types and backgrounds and the scale of the response this week, has done exactly that! It is a fantastic achievement.
In a similar vein, I really do feel that one of the strengths of Invicta is our ‘sense of togetherness’. Just this week, we have had so many examples of the way in which our students, staff and parents ‘work together’ to ‘bring people together’ too. 50 students worked with Mrs Smart and her staff team this weekend, on their Duke of Edinburgh, Silver Award. Our girls have had to ‘work together’ to successfully complete a challenging expedition; particularly in the heat and, so as a result, they now have a much better understanding of what they have in common too. Equally, our Year 10 students ‘worked together’ to complete their GCSE Hospitality event, raising £850 in just one evening. To see how the girls’ teamwork and confidence developed throughout the day and to hear our parents talk so highly of their daughters’ achievements was wonderful. A particularly strong aspect of the occasion was how parents, brothers, sisters, friends and extended family were all supporting our students. It was really enjoyable to witness, as well as having the opportunity to talk to parents too. Likewise, this week, we have had students travel to Oxford University with Mrs Lloyd, to meet our Alumni students and so, once again, we have seen the importance of friendship and support for one another. I could go on – Our Year 7 Movie and Makeover Night which raised £360 and our Primary Speaking Competition are also great examples of how our students and staff have ‘worked together’. It could not make me more proud! Certainly, when I listened to Brendan Cox, I did feel a sense of achievement, in that I know our school is doing exactly what is needed at the moment – reinforcing the importance of support, solidarity and socialising. I therefore cannot wait for this week, to continue this theme, as we move on to celebrate our Annual Summer Concert and Annual Sports Day! Thank you to all our students, staff and parents for our ‘work together’.
