Invicta Vlogs
2017 Fashion Design Trip, Italy - Blog One
After an excellent flight the ‘Fashion Pack’ student group of A Level Fashion and Textiles and Product Design Textiles and 3D students arrived at Milan Malpensa. They were greeted by their host families and were whisked away to enjoy their first night of Italian hospitality.
Day One began at our partner school Enrico Tosi in the Lombardy town of Busto Arsizio, which has been a major centre for textile production over many years. The Italian students who are working with the Invicta group throughout the week had made a welcome poster which was on display in the reception area, this was followed by a presentation on the institutions and galleries that the group will visit during their two days in Milan. The presentation was followed by a ‘Welcome’ breakfast. After generous pasties and Cappuccino, the English and Italian students were put into five groups. Each group had to research a selected Italian Fashion designer and to create a presentation on that designer and their brand identity and iconic status in the design world. The resulting presentations will take place on the final day of the visit.
Lunch consisted of various excellent pasta dishes and this was followed by a walk in the warm sunshine to the Museum of Textiles in Busto. The students were able to see the various processes involved in cotton production, fabric manufacture, textile printing and fibre and fabric developments linked to the space sector. It was a most informative tour and the students were able to gain a greater understanding of theory. From there the group went into the centre of the old town to meet their hosts for the evening.
