RAG Week 2017 was definitely an event to remember!
Last week, we embraced our annual RAG Week. The aim of the week, is to encourage students to ‘Raise And Give’ whilst working together as a team in leading others. The week started with Year 9-13 coming into school in their pyjamas; the dress-up theme was very appropriate for a Monday morning! The first RAG event was ‘The Invicta Bakeoff’, with Dr Millgate being a very convincing Paul Hollywood. Our staff bakers produced some very creative cakes, ranging from a dinosaur inspired cake to an atom! No prizes for which staff were baking!
On Monday evening, we had the notorious RAG Dance Show, with 26 different dances that were all of an impeccable standard; even the hilarious boys dance showed some glimpses of talent! The time spent choreographing, practising and advertising the show certainly payed off. This was a brilliant example of this week’s theme “Care about the Arts and Media”, as Invicta took pride in not only academia but our extracurricular activities too!
Stars in Their Eyes was one of the favourite shows of the week, with the Maths Teachers returning to try and defend their title. It was a very close competition with the Senior Leadership Team performing “Man’s Not Hot”, with Mr Ehren showcasing some surprisingly well mastered break dancing. The Leadership Team’s performance was rivalled by the reigning champions, the Maths Teachers, with a very well-choreographed and cheeky performance. Although the overall winners were the Sixth Form Boys, redoing their performance from the RAG Dance Show, the crowd went wild for it!
However, the main focus of RAG week is to raise as much money for our 5 Invicta charities as possible - Rubicon Cares, Bliss, West Kent Befriending Service, Dandelion Time and Parkinson’s UK despite all the fun. RAG week could not be at a better time with the Christmas Spirit inspiring people to be in a more generous mood and therefore helping others less fortunate themselves. Hopefully we have raised an incredible amount of money and get a step closer to the HUGE £50,000 target. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved – students, teachers, parents for their commitment to RAG and the amazing efforts everyone went to. It certainly was a week to remember – fun and hugely rewarding!
