Year 6 Transition
As part of our Transition programme at Invicta Grammar School, I have been visiting primary schools to introduce myself and meet students on a one to one basis, before they start at Invicta in September. It has been really interesting to visit our Year 6 students at their school, to see the work that they are doing and to answer any questions they have. Most of their questions were around homework and getting lost which is perfectly understandable! However, I was able to reassure them that they have absolutely nothing to worry about and that they will find their way around school very quickly once they start here.
Our current Year 7 and 8 students attended with me to speak to the students as well. This is an invaluable experience for them as the Year 6’s are able to see the confidence that our students have and how much they have learned during their time at Invicta. Our students were outstanding ambassadors for our school and it was lovely to hear how their experiences have positively impacted upon their learning.
Part of my visit to the primary schools was also to meet Year 5 students. During this time, I was able to give advice to the students regarding tips for taking the 11+ assessment and how to prepare for them. It was so nice to see some familiar faces from the Year 5 Familiarisation Workshops that we hold here! Our Invicta students also gave the students advice from their point of view, on how to prepare for the 11+. This was really useful as they have only recently gone through the whole process and were able to give excellent feedback to the students.
Our Year 6’s have lots of events coming up soon, such as the New Entrants’ Evening on 13 June and their Film Screening on 18 June. Then it will be onto their Taster Day on 5 July which will be a very exciting day! I am very much looking forward to seeing them all again soon as they embark on their Invicta journey.
