Invicta Vlogs
My last blog at Invicta!
As I draw closer to the next chapter in my life, I have been looking back on my time at Invicta and all the things that I have discovered about myself and others on the way! Seven years is such a short time in the big scheme of things, but the seven years we spend at school are the foundation for the rest of our lives. So, having come to the end of my Invicta journey, I would like to offer some general guidance to students of all ages based on what I have discovered at Invicta.
Get involved: from the very beginning of Year 7, aim to get involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible. By following your interests as they come and go, the chances are you will find something that you really enjoy. Then, when Year 11 comes around, you can begin to focus on getting involved with the things that interest you most, which will help you supplement your CV or personal statement!
Be brave: this goes for everything - both inside and outside school. Shakespeare said: “a coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste death only once”. By being brave, both in your school work and socially with your peers, you can develop your ‘authentic selves’ and grow as individuals, enabling you to make your unique contributions. Between the ages of 11 and 18, we undergo an incredible amount of physical and, more significantly, emotional growth. This period shapes our futures and our future selves. It is important for us to give ourselves the chance to ‘be the best we can be’.
Find your mission: this is an extension of being brave, because finding our mission sometimes means going against the flow … and being different. This can be scary! Spending time trying to figure out our ‘calling’ can be hard, but it is the first step in the journey to a fulfilled life. And once we begin, things start to fall into place and our journey becomes uncluttered and rewarding. There is a saying, ‘Find a job you enjoy, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life’. Now, wouldn’t that be something!
Save your best pieces of work: this one may sound trivial, but while we are at school, we create some exceptional pieces of work … from essays to artwork. Saving the course-work we are proud of might come in handy later on.
I hope that, this my final blog as Head Girl, is useful – it is certainly things I would have liked to have known earlier, but I have enjoyed my journey nonetheless. Invicta has been a staple in my life since 2011 and my experiences here have shaped my life in ways I have yet to discover. It has been a pleasure to lead the student body this year. It is a role that I will be sad to pass on, but I am happy that the tradition continues with your new Head Girl. Thank you to each and everyone of the students and staff in this school – you make it a very special place to be!
