Invicta Vlogs
Time Travelling
Time travelling is seen as a concept far from reality and is only seen in films. However, I feel I am a time traveller. It feels like only yesterday was my first day at Invicta and now I am approaching the end of this academic year and preparing to continue my studies into Year 13.
I joined the Invicta Sixth Form as a Year 12 student in September of 2017, after completing my GCSE examinations at Maidstone Grammar School where I felt content; however, not challenged or supported.
With support from the staff and the inclusive nature of the students here at Invicta, I quickly settled and formed friendships that, despite being only weeks old, felt they had been developing over a lifetime.
Through adapting to the new environment, people and subjects, the first weeks flew by and the highly anticipated RAG week could be seen quickly approaching. This fun-filled week of activities presented an opportunity for me to fully ‘come out of my shell’ and jump from my comfort zone to compete in the popular Man-O-Man. The feeling of raising money for worthwhile causes, while having fun was amazing.
Year 12 was spent admiring the Senior Prefect Team of 2017-2018 and especially the Head Boy, Max, who filled the role that inspired me over the upcoming weeks.
2018 arrived on my doorstep and bought with it the first set of internal exams; a chance to present the knowledge I had obtained in the first few months of my three A Level courses. Along with unrealistic resolutions, including winning the lottery, the New Year included Hustings - the process of selecting the new Head Boy and Head Girl, along with the new Senior Prefect Team. I was nervous and hesitant to submit my letter of application to Mrs Derrick and was both thankful and frightened by my acceptance into the Speeches Stage.
Public speaking was a real weakness of mine and the week of assemblies to every student in the school felt like torture, pushing me out of my comfort zone. However, the anxiety was replaced with satisfaction after self-observing my development throughout the week and my increase in confidence. After the speeches, I was accepted into an interview which led to, on the 22 July, finding out I had been appointed the new Head Boy.
End of Year Examinations were announced and concluded in the blink of an eye and with an indication of my UCAS predicted grades, the end of the year is now approaching and, just like that, I am on my way to Year 13. I cannot wait for my next set of challenges and the next phase of my ‘time travel’.
