Time to Think?
Modern society is developing at an incredible rate. Technology, robotics, artificial intelligence, engineering, as well as much more, is moving forwards at a tremendous rate. Some have described this technological development as “hyper-evolution”. We cannot predict with any certainty what the future of our society will look like and it is said that technological enhancements mean we are living in ‘exponential times’.
At Invicta, we are working hard to prepare all of our students for a market place which we cannot yet see, or even comprehend. However, looking inwards can sometimes help us see more clearly when looking outwards. For example, as we move forward through our academic year and consider our school and all of its stakeholders, it is incredible to think about what has been achieved.
With modern life being so fast paced, it is useful to take time to reflect upon what we have each achieved and accomplished. Although it is only mid-November, and the academic year is not even 3 months old yet, we: students, parents, governors and staff, have already come so far. The work and effort already put in this academic year will help to shape how it will end and what we will all be able to achieve. Taking stock now is a good opportunity to praise ourselves for the hard work we have all put in and identify all of our individual successes. It will also allow us an opportunity to identify areas that we would like to work on.
Reflection is such an important part of successful development. It allows us an opportunity to take the time to think about where we have come from, what has gone before us, what went well and what could/should be altered to improve things. Past events, some of which should probably not be dwelled upon for too long, shape our outlooks, futures, and indeed us, as individuals. This weekend’s commemorations of Remembrance have allowed us an opportunity to remember those service men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice so as to protect and secure our freedom. Without their sacrifices, I am sure we would be living in quite a different world compared to the one in which we are. To achieve greatness, sacrifices sometimes need to be made. Never forgetting those sacrifices, learning from mistakes, should mean that we are able to avoid making the same mistakes again in the future.
As this week passes, if you have not done so already, take time to reflect on everything you have achieved so far – this year and before it. Hopefully, you will be happy with what you have accomplished. If you are not, what changes, or even sacrifices, are you prepared to make so as to realise the full potential that you possess and wish to achieve? We are fortunate enough not to have to make the sorts or sacrifices our servicemen and women have historically had to make. However, just making small changes could have a big impact. We are all wonderful in so many different ways, considering where we have come from could help us to become better than we ever expected. This reflection, and making slight adjustments, allows us an opportunity to alter our trajectory and realise the goals upon which we have set our sights.
So, as we embrace ‘time to think’, consider too, the need to think about the theme of the week, which is to be ‘respectful’. There is no better time than now to do this!
