Head Girl Blog -2018 - What a year!
For me, 2018 was a year of successes, growth and self-development. As we now embark upon 2019, I hope that this is the same. As I enter into my (slightly daunting) last year of school, I know that this year will brings lots of new opportunities.
2018 blew me away! Some of my most favourite memories of the year are travelling on my own to Scotland to complete the residential section of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh – a week of firsts! My first solo flight, my first time in Scotland, and my first opportunity to meet people from all parts of the UK. 11 months later, I am still in contact with some of my friends, and we hope to all meet up in the future, despite living 7 hours apart! This really was an amazing opportunity. Later in the year, I completed my award, which means that I will soon be visiting St James Palace to collect it – I am SO excited!
I was appointed the position of Head Girl at the end of March; something that still has not quite sunk in! As a member of the Senior Prefect Team, I am so proud of what we have achieved and will leave as our legacy to Invicta Grammar School. In particular, we have worked tirelessly alongside the RAG (Raise and Give) charity team, to arrange our Community Day, which was a huge success, and something which I hope continues in the future. RAG week itself was one of the busiest, but most rewarding weeks - especially when we found out that we had raised nearly £9000 in 4 days of dressing up, dancing, and Man O Man performing! A huge well done to all of us, and what a brilliant way to end the year.
As for 2019, let’s hope it has some amazing chances in store! Personally, my goals this year are to work hard towards the A Level Exams I will be sitting in June. I know that these will (of course) be challenging, but having worked towards them for 2 years, I would love to see all of our grades reflect the work we have put in. I am really looking forward to taking a gap year (I have put university on hold). My plans include completing a ski season in France, where I will be able to use my French language skills, earning some money for university, and hopefully going to an American Summer Camp, to be a Camp Counsellor. I had never heard of this before, but as soon as I did, I knew that I wanted to do it!
Generally, I hope that I am remembered this year, as part of the Senior Prefect Team, for all of our efforts into making the school an even better environment to develop in! I hope that the events we put in place continue, and that we continue to make our mark before the next Senior Prefect Team are appointed. Good luck to everyone for 2019!
