Stepping out of your comfort zone
Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new is something that many of us (including myself) are extremely scared of. Personally, I am very nervous into the lead-up to trying new things and change in general. However, without doing this, I would not have been able to achieve many things in my life.
From Year 7, I knew that I wanted to apply to be Head Girl but as I moved through the school, I lost my confidence in applying and questioned even whether I would be a good Head Girl or not. In the end, I decided that I should leave my comfort zone and apply for the role as I had always wanted to. I am so grateful that I had the courage to make this decision as I would have regretted it if I hadn’t. I certainly would not have been able to meet some of my closest friends on the team.
As I approach my final year of Invicta, I have learnt the importance of trying something new, making mistakes and change. Life is constantly changing and you will never be able to stay in your comfort zone for your whole life. Invicta has taught me the importance of resilience; carrying on moving forward, when you may experience challenges and support. I would never have been able to achieve anything in my life without the support of my friends, family and teachers, helping me when I was nervous.
On the Tuesday 17 September 2019, we held the annual Leadership Fair in the Hall at lunchtime. Here, the Senior Prefects marketed all of the prefect roles that we have throughout the school. Both the teachers and prefects were extremely impressed by the volume of students from a variety of ages that were interested in applying for roles to represent their school. With the deadlines for prefect applications on Thursday, why not step outside of your comfort zone like I did and apply for a prefect role for this academic year? And always remember that nerves and stress are very good indicators that you care about what you’re doing and that you want to succeed.
