Male Mental Health Awareness at Invicta
As November is well under way, I thought now would be a good time to reflect on the importance of the month, with regards to mental health awareness amongst men.
The month of November is dedicated to male mental health awareness and at Invicta, I am delighted to say that we celebrate this through our engagement in Movember - a charity which encourages men to grow moustaches throughout November, in aid of promoting male mental health awareness and combatting male suicide rates worldwide.
It is little known that in the UK, 12 men take their own lives daily, a rate that is 3 times higher than women. Movember and charities alike encourage men to speak up about their issues and reach out to their friends or family.
I am pleased to say that many teachers have taken up this challenge, including Mr Taylor, Mr Salsbury and Mr Ehren to name a few. In further support of this, at the end of the month, Invicta is holding a lunchtime event, in which Sixth form students; Toby Aitalegbe, Finn Spilker, Dom Waters and I will have our legs waxed for charity. As well as this, Mr Ehren will be having his head shaved all in the name of Movember. This will be an exciting (if not painful) event that hopefully will raise lots of money for an important cause.
As well as Movember, on Friday, Invicta will be supporting Children in Need - a charity which helps vulnerable children throughout the UK. There will be a sponsored Bike-o-Thon held in Reception, in which Year 7s, Sixth Form students and teachers will try to break 400 miles in a single day!
Thank you to everyone in advance for donating and supporting these events, your contributions will not be forgotten and your charitable spirit really does make our school proud.
Looking forward to the weeks ahead, Invicta will be hosting its annual Autumn Concert on the 20 November, in which Mr Heaton and the Music department have been working hard, in order to present an evening of many different musical performances. Events like these are not to be missed!
Finally, to round off the weekly Blog, I would like to congratulate students in Years 11 and 13, who have just completed their first set of mocks for this year. Keep working hard and I am sure that it will pay off!
