Time to reflect on all that we have achieved
As the Spring Equinox passes and we approach the end of another action packed half term it seems right to reflect on all that we have achieved in 2021 so far.
Not only have we continued to progress in our studies throughout another period of national Lockdown, we have also done many things that we would not have thought possible a year ago.
Our Aspire Event, Consultation Evenings and GCSE Options Events have all successfully moved online; we have continued to offer a comprehensive transition programme for our local community with a wide range of virtual transition events for Year 4, 5 and 6 students, and the ‘Why don’t You..? Wednesdays’, whole school PE challenges, art and photography competitions, cook-along evenings, quizzes and a range of non-uniform and other charity fundraisers have been keeping us entertained during the long weeks at home!
This month we celebrated International Women’s Day; a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day is marked annually on 8 March, and is also used to raise awareness about women's equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities. At Invicta, we asked students to ‘Choose To Challenge’ and show their support and solidarity by raising their hands to show their commitment, and to send in poems or other artistic representations of this year’s theme.
This initiative is just a small part of the work that the Women in Leadership team are developing– looking to inspire the young women in our school community to achieve highly and work towards aspirational careers in their futures. This term, Miss Gater has launched our Women in Leadership Careers Profiles, a weekly addition to Invicta News, helping us to gain a better understanding of the career paths that successful women have taken to reach their current positions – these include former VIAT students, and young women working in industries as different as in Finance, digital marketing, Fundraising and International Diplomacy!

The Women in Leadership Team look forward to making links with TIDE students (Target: Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) in the future and continuing to promote STEM careers, women’s health and showcasing our talents in arts, dance and music and much more as part of an International Women’s Festival next year.
We would like to thank Miss Searle and the History Department for the resources they have been sending out for Women’s History Month – there are 3 final women to discover this week: Amelia Earheart, Jayaben Desai and Husa Shaaawi. It has been lovely to see the impact that women across a variety of cultures and time periods have had on their own communities and the wider world.
Please speak with the History Department for more information about the Women’s History Network Schools History Prize poster competition – deadline 30 June.
March is also an important month for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) department – Mr Rzepka hopes that students have enjoyed the activities that he has been sending out weekly.
You may like to investigate the National Careers week broadcasts, as well as exciting coding and practical activities - these can still be located in the Aspire area of the Student Portal, and these would be an excellent way to keep yourself entertained over the Easter Holidays.
As the clocks change and our days continue to get longer, I hope you embrace the challenges and opportunities that the new term brings and take advantage of all of the opportunities that are open to you in school.
