New Beginnings!
To me, June often heralds many new beginnings. It is when we are excited to embrace our new Year 7 students and their families into the Invicta community; it is when we are busy helping our Year 11 students prepare for the next stage in their education – the Sixth Form years. June is also when we say ‘goodbye’ to our Year 13 students who are departing for universities and employment.
As teachers, we are privileged to be a part of all these ‘new beginnings’. We welcome the new Year 7 students to Invicta and in what feels like a blink of an eye, the girls grow into confident and competent young people, ready to take on the world. Before we know it, we hear back from them again, now in a powerful job somewhere, offering to come back to help our younger students. Some will even come back to work with us! That special circle of life at Invicta goes on in front of us and our students will not stop amazing us with their outstanding achievements.
A few former students got in touch recently, telling me about their exciting lives in the big world out there. One mentioned that she kept running into other former Invicta students in her world of work and it is astounding that she always recognises them. She said there is something about their poise, their grace, the way they speak confidently and the way they pay attention to detail that sets them apart.
Another student told me how grateful she was for the consistently high standards that we set at Invicta, which have given her a’ real edge’ in the competitive job market. Only last week, we were delighted to receive many thank you messages from parents of Year 13 students who used words such as ‘wonderful’, ‘amazing’, ‘brilliant’ to describe their daughters’ time at Invicta. One parent said “Invicta’s values and the planning that has gone into her school journey have been wonderful.”
It was an emotional time to say ‘goodbye’ to our Year 13 students a few weeks ago. I felt lost, sad and excited for them in equal measure; in the same way one feels when bidding farewell to an older child leaving home for university. We know that they are ready for the next step in life, that we have helped them form habits, viewpoints and core values that define them and enable them to stand on their own two feet – but that does not make saying goodbye any easier.
