Togetherness
Interaction with other human beings has proved to be a necessity for all of us; we learned to not take this for granted throughout the lockdown periods. As we are making every effort to reinstate normality, ‘togetherness’ has been high on the agenda at Invicta.
It has been such a joy to add the many school trips, events, competitions and performances to our school calendar. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting our parents and guests in school again and have found myself repeatedly commenting on the fact that nothing can beat meeting one another in person.
Just before we broke up for the Easter holiday, we were treated to the best Spring Concert ever experienced at Invicta. It was a feast of ambitiously chosen musical pieces performed to perfection by our students following tireless rehearsals throughout the term. The programme was well thought out and professionally produced by our technical team, and it mesmerised everyone in the audience. I was reduced to tears by the Gospel Choir’s performance which depicted ‘togetherness’ in the most beautiful way. The passion and joy was written on the faces of the 400 students taking part in the concert. We appreciated not just the talents on display; we loved how it gave us a strong sense of community in which everyone works to achieve something spectacular together.
On this theme of togetherness, we are looking forward to the Festival of Art, Literature and Music this summer term. While this forms part of a unique transition programme for our new Year 7 students, the event promises to be enjoyed by students, staff and parents from all VIAT secondary schools. The Festival of Art, Literature and Music will take place from 11am to 4pm on 9 July on the Maidstone campus. There will be a live concert in the SST Hall throughout the day, featuring the best ensemble pieces from Invicta, Valley Park, SST and Lenham; an art exhibition in the SST Library, showcasing artworks produced by our new Year 7 students during their taster days’ workshops together with the works by older students from all four schools. A literature tent will be set up on the field featuring performances by famous authors and poets. There will also be an outdoor stage where live music will be played by bands, with food trucks and ice cream vans available to keep the whole family going throughout the day!
We are all looking forward to the Festival in which the sense of togetherness will be felt by the community of not just one school, but of the whole VIAT community. It will be an opportunity for the VIAT family to come together to show our appreciation of Art, Music and Reading. So please save the date in your family calendar and come along and have fun with us!
