Invicta Vlogs
This week has been a memorable week for all of us I am sure; the Scottish Referendum taking centre stage!
Our strong interest in this over the last few weeks and months has undoubtedly highlighted the ‘Better Together’ campaign as well as the ‘Yes’ campaign . This made me think about what we have done ‘together’ this week. The campaigns have struck a chord nationally, but we consider working together to be the norm at Invicta – something we are very proud of!
On Saturday, our annual Art, Photography and Design Technology exhibition and fashion displays showcased the superb talents of our Year 8 – 13 students. The gold dress made for the Heart of Kent Hospice had to be the showstopper – it will be displayed in their new shop in King Street, so do go and have a look. Such collaboration and imagination was also evident in our Year 5 Primary Workshop whereby 30 youngsters demonstrated teambuilding, creativity and enthusiasm in a Languages Treasure Trail. Our international focus and firm partnerships have provided even more global insights and experiences with our World School visit to Vladivostok in Russia and our hosting of Mr Chua Chor Huat, Headteacher of Singapore’s flagship School of Science and Technology on Tuesday. I really am very excited to not only receive daily photos of our students in Russia but at the prospect of running a joint project with the staff and students in Singapore. What a great example of countries working together.
Our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics visit on Tuesday enabled students to learn and apply their understanding of STEM in order to build a 1000mph car together. This, along with our Enrichment Day experiences on Friday whereby Year 7 had a great day bonding in a wet and active teambuilding day at Bewl Water demonstrates our commitment to teamwork. Our entire Year 8 started their Adventure Service Challenge project, learning about First Aid and Orienteering, and our Year 9 had a wonderful trip to the 4th Dimension in East Grinstead, learning about teamwork and leadership too. We were told that it was rare for any groups of students to have scored as many points in one day! Well done Year 9!
But, the highlight this week, has to be the topical work – our assemblies on World War One by Mr Saputo and Amy Nix and Honor Probert to launch our commemoration of World War One which was incredibly thought provoking and the Extended Learning Lecture, given by Professor Tim Luckhurst on the referendum, along with our own debate on Wednesday. Not only have we all worked together on this, but we have undoubtedly focussed our attention on things that we will never forget and as Mr Saputo said in assembly ‘Less We Forget’.
