We have now had our first full week back at school!
We have now had our first full week back at school! Our timetable works and our new students and staff can say that they know the school a little bit more and we have collectively got to know them too.
I have been so impressed with the way in which our new Year 7 have settled. The overriding sentiment as you see our Year 7 is one of joy. We have had lots of smiles and excitement about their new experiences. When I spoke to some of our Year 7 tutor groups last week, I was very touched to hear that they were thoroughly enjoying their Science, Mathematics, Art, Music, History and PE lessons to name just a few. In fact, every student would say something different which highlights that there is a vast range of new experiences for every individual. But what really struck me was when they were asked ‘what was the most surprising aspect of starting a new school?’ - many of them spoke about how easily they had made friends, but so many of them commented about how they felt grown up and that they thought they might feel ‘ the youngest’ again. However, it has been the opposite! Our girls have risen to the challenge of being treated as young adults. Yes – they do still have concerns and anxieties, but they have embraced the opportunities to meet new friends and take on board the new responsibilities that starting a secondary school provides. So much so, that when I challenged some our Year 7 to name all the students in their Tutor Group this week, they not only did it successfully, but with incredible speed and confidence. I had lots of students wanting to complete the challenge - they were keen to impress and ‘have a go’! What more could I ask for after only 7 days at school. I have no doubt that collectively we are going to really enjoy our journey together. I am genuinely excited to see our Year 7 do much more than ‘complete’ their education at a secondary school. I know that it will be an exciting and challenging time whereby we can see lots more of those smiles! It makes me proud and I cannot wait to see them embrace all that Invicta has to offer.
