Staff Profile - Mrs Skelton
Name: Mrs Skelton
Role: Assistant Head, Sixth Form
Subject: History
Favourite Book: I have recently tried to read books that are recommended to try and broaden my interest and so have recently read the Apples Never Fall by Lianne Moriarty, which I devoured while I was away on holiday in the Summer and have just started The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I have a tendency, if choosing myself, to go for historical novels. I’m sure not all history teachers would agree but I love the Tudors and the stories that exist around Kings and Queens. I am definitely a social historian, I like to know about people’s lives and so anyting by Philippa Gregory or Alison Weir always goes down well!
Favourite Film: There are so many films that I enjoy but two of my favourites are Dirty Dancing (it may be cheesy but I love it!) and Shawshank Redemption! Apart from horror films, which I cannot stand, I really enjoy quite dramatic films or films based on true events, such as The Trial of the Chicago 7 which I would really recommend.
Hobbies: Reading when I can manage to. Most of my time now is spent taking my children to their hobbies!
Favourite Food: I love most food but If I had to choose it would be Italian. I love pasta, preferably with seafood!
Favourite Holiday destination: Unsurprisingly, based on my last answer it is Italy. I love not only the food but the beautiful architecture and art that you can see, and the whole way of life. I have enjoyed many holidays wandering the streets of a beautiful Italian city.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do? An event planner, preferably a wedding planner. I love organising and planning and seeing an event come together so I think if I wasn’t a teacher then I would still be planning, just not lessons!
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved? Having my children, such a change in lifestyle and the huge responsibility! And there have been some very challenging moments so far!
Why did you decide to work in education? I had always thought that I would be a teacher, I love my subject and enjoy being able to talk about it all day and seeing students love your subject is such a great experience. Working with the Sixth Form I have always loved seeing students go on to their next stage of the journey.
How have you found your first term at Invicta? It has only been a few days but I am enjoying it so far and have been very impressed by the students that I have met!
