A Level Fashion and Textiles Trip
Miss Herbert sent this report:
On Tuesday, 11 October the Fashion and Textiles A Level students visited the Victoria and Albert Museum in London as part of their wider research.
As well as exploring all the museum has to offer, the trip was specifically intended so students could visit the ‘Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear’ exhibition.
For their first A Level project, Year 12 have been researching, and will eventually go on to design and make Shirts. The exhibition linked closely to historical and contextual research on the origins of the shirt, and how the garment links to traditional menswear.
Students will select an element from the exhibition to include and respond to within their own designs - keep an eye out for this in the future!
Similarly, it was a fantastic primary research opportunity for Year 13 as part of their ongoing NEA projects. This was an exciting and incredibly inspiring trip, which left us all (Miss Herbert included!) with further thoughts on how menswear has changed over time, and how fashion must constantly adapt to societal changes to capture and maintain our intrigue. Something for us all to reflect upon: In today’s society... what can we really class as ‘Mens’wear?
