Staff Profile - Mr Shingleton
Name: Mr Shingleton
Role: Teacher
Subject: Physical Education
Favourite Book: Harry Potter (all of them). I know they're classics but who doesn’t love them? I would like to think that if Hogwarts was real then I’d have got my letter before I started at secondary school, and maybe even been friends with Harry but who knows?
Favourite Film: The Blind Side (2009). What I love about this film is the journey, you see throughout the film how Michael Ohr’s confidence builds and how the kindness of strangers can change someone’s life.
Hobbies: I do a lot of athletics training. I have been lucky enough over the past few years to have the opportunity to train with Olympic and International athletes for the 400m. I train 6 days a week for the event! I also enjoy lots of other sports and am always very active over the weekends.
Favourite Food: There is not a food I dislike! I eat absolutely everything so it’s very hard to pick my favourite. I always love trying new food and consider this a hobby of mine. If I had to pick, I would probably say loaded nachos.
Favourite Holiday destination:
When I was younger my family always took us to Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. I have lots of fond memories of these holiday and hope to visit again soon.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do?
I think if I wasn’t teaching, I would work with high performance athletes and coaches, helping them reach their goals. I have done a lot of work with British Athletics over the past few years as part of the Youth Talent Programme. I have helped to educate current GB level athletes on strength and conditioning for their events.
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved?
There are a lot of things that have been challenging to achieve so it is hard to pick one. One recent challenge was achieving my master’s degree in Biomechanics. I spent long nights in the library and full days in the labs testing, however it was an incredibly rewarding experience.
Why did you decide to work in education?
The reason I am in the position I am in today is because of my PE teacher at school. He pushed me to do well in my education as well as my running outside of school. I hope to inspire students the same way he inspired me.
How have you found your first term at Invicta?
I am incredibly excited to begin this academic year at Invicta. I look forward to meeting all pupils in lessons as well as extra-curricular activities (especially my running club!!!).
