Year 9 Computing - Bletchley Park Visit
Ivana and Rose in 9A sent this report:
On Friday, 2 December Year 9 Computing students were invited on a trip to visit Bletchley Park to see where Alan Turing and his team cracked the Enigma Code.
Upon arrival, we were split into three groups. We were both allocated to Group 1 whose first activity of the day was a guided tour. Stuart, the tour guide assigned to us by Bletchley Park, was extremely knowledgable and took us round the park explaining how people were recruited and what they did to help Britain and the Allies win during the Second World War.
Our next stop for the day was the gift shop for a bit of souvenir shopping and a short break. After that it was straight onto a workshop. In the workshop, Sue taught us all about cybersecurity and how to create a strong password, which we already had some base knowledge about from Year 7 computer science. She took the time to explain in-depth about the necessity for a strong password and how vulnerable our data was without one.
After lunch we finished off the day by completing a self-guided tour and worksheet around the site, learning even more about what happened at Bletchley Park. Thank you to Miss Fenson for organising the trip and to all of our other teachers and staff members who took the time to come with us on the visit.
We had an amazing day and loved learning about the history of computers and where it all began.
