Year 9 Spanish - Leeds Castle Visit
Mrs Howard sent this report:
On Friday 22 September, Year 9 Spanish students visited Leeds Castle to reinforce the work they have been doing in lessons based on “Las Reinas españolas del Castillo de Leeds” - The Spanish Queens of Leeds Castle.
Our first Composite of the Foundation Year has been based on the Spanish Queens associated with Leeds Castle and how they must have felt when the left Spain, at a very young age, to come to England – a very different country altogether! We have been studying the vocabulary needed to be able to talk about these historical periods and to be able to describe their feelings and their personal traits; these were very strong, resilient women who were shaped by their childhoods in the Spanish Cortes.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially the talk in the Education Centre which was especially designed to complement our unit of work at Invicta. The Queens with Means film was also a great opportunity to reinforce students’ learning about the fascinating stories of all the women who were so important in Leeds Castle’s history.
Louisa in 9A said this about the day:
I thoroughly enjoyed the Leeds Castle trip due to the historical importance Leeds Castle has for the Spanish Queens we studied in Spanish. My favourite part of the day was the short film we watched about the Queens and how they spent their time at Leeds Castle . We then toured round the beautiful castle photographing specific elements, for example La Reina (a Queen). Finally, I really enjoyed going through the maze as me and my friends were able to complete it twice! Thank you very much to the teachers who helped on this amazing day.
