Year 7 Maths Earthquake Workshop
Maryam in 7A sent this report:
On the Monday, 22 January a selection of six students from each Year 7 form group were asked to participate in the Maths Earthquake Workshop.
This was a challenge where students were instructed to build a tower out of Kinetic Bricks that was as close to one metre tall as possible and would be able to withstand being shaken on a special table that would shake the structure at different speeds.
The objective of the challenge was to have the tallest tower with the least amount of movement in it.
When we tested our structures, the tallest tower was 114 cm tall but had the most amount of movement, which was 547mm, in it. In the end, 7I were declared the winners as their tower reached 90 cm tall but only had a movement of 58 mm. Well done to 7I for this achievement. We all had a good time completing the workshop and thank you to Mr Homes for organising it adn to Tony Gee and Partners for delivering it.
