Silicon Valley - Day 4
By Mrs Lloyd
Day 4
The group headed off across northern California to Berkley and the home of the University of California at Berkley, one of the highest performing universities in the US. It was most enjoyable taking a tour of the campus which is situated at the edge of the town. We began the tour at the visitor’s centre located within the college stadium. We then took the road up to and beyond the university Botanical Gardens for a spectacular view across the city and the San Francisco Bay area.
We then began a superb road tour of the sights of San Francisco region, we were fortunate to drive out to the Pacific coast and then around the San Francisco Bay, including Solsolitos and were able to view the Golden Gate bridge from a viewing point that had been a fort during the American Civil War. The views were spectacular as the sea mists rolled in. We then crossed the bridge and entered downtown San Francisco. We toured many of the hilly streets and were able to admire the architecture, including the ‘Painted Ladies’ and saw the famous trolleybuses in action. Our tour ended with a trip up to the Twin Peaks for another spectacular view. After returning across the mountains to Silicon Valley, the day closed with a trip to the movies and an American pizza!
