World School Days 10 to 13 - Seminars, Japanese Culture Night and Goodbyes
The Invicta delegates sent us the following report:
We are now feeling that the end of the Forum is in sight, with the seminar sessions taking up most of the day. However, some of the brave (including all of the UK delegates) got up at 5am for a walk to Katsuura Beach to watch the sun rise. Wrapped up warm, we walked in a very long line down the hill to witness a very grey dawn and no promised amazing sun rise over the Pacific!!
Back in the seminar room, the students practiced their speeches and rehearsed their presentations as today was the day they presented the three Calls to Action based on Convenience, Health and Culture. Once the presentations were completed, the other groups gave constructive feedback so that the presentations could be further improved before they were filmed the next day.
The Student Staff at Kanto had prepared a fantastic Japanese Cultural Evening on our last but one night. We had the opportunity to try on kimonos, participate in a Japanese Tea Ceremony and try our hands at Japanese calligraphy using a brush.
The last full day was full of emotion, as the delegates realised that tomorrow, they would all be going their separate ways. Everyone was relieved once the camera stopped rolling and the hard work was over. With the filming finished, we changed into our formal clothes for the traditional Tea Planting Ceremony. This was followed by the Farewell Ceremony and dinner, with a number of thought provoking speeches urging the delegates to go back to their schools and spread the World School message of understanding and appreciation of other cultures while working for a better future.
During the evening, we were entertained again by the South African, Russian and New Zealand delegates who repeated their country performances. Every one enjoyed the Shushi Bar and particularly Mr Harada dispensing a variety of ice creams, next to the chocolate fountain. We sang The World School Song “We are the World” for once last time and it was time to finish for the night.
The UK delegation were on the first coach to the airport the next morning, along with Sri Lanka, Germany, India USA and Finland. Our wakeup call was at 5.00am. Imagine our surprise when the whole of World School; students, student staff, teachers and alumni were there to wave us off. The tears and fond farewells continued with promises to keep in touch and meet again.
We would like to thank the World School Director; Mr Matsudaira and his fantastic staff for making this such a memorable event. We are looking forward to selecting the delegates for the next World School, which will take place at St Paul’s School in Brisbane, Australia in October 2017.
