Last week, our theme was ‘Be Accepting’ and this week it is ‘Explore Super-Curricular’. Both have a basis of ‘working with others’, as central to the theme. We need to be ‘accepting’ to work with others and we need to ‘work with others’ to explore the Super Curricular. I strongly believe that success at home and work requires teamwork and the need to work with others. The industrialist, Andrew Carnegie described teamwork as ‘the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results’. Well – last week – we had great examples of this – the Year 8 Options Evening, the Mini United Nations Conference and the Kent School’s Debating Competition; their success was certainly the result of some excellent team work on the part of many parents, staff and girls and their efforts are greatly appreciated by everyone at Invicta. This work is a fine example for girls in the school. It is important that we teach students about the benefits of working together towards a common goal and of fostering links within and outside our community. Our teachers and girls work relentlessly on so many projects - all wonderful examples of the pleasures of collaborative effort.
The last couple of years have shaken up assumptions about society for many of us. As we approach the end of our first half term of 2017, it is surely more important than ever to reflect on how we can work together towards common goals and the need to work together and accept one another too!
