I cannot believe that as I write, we are rapidly coming to the end of Summer Term and our entire academic year.
Not only has Wimbledon finished, but we have had our Invicta Sports Day and we have completed our annual production of Grease. It is a mix of emotions – such joy and such sadness!
So much time and energy is given to such a venture and as I reflect on the performances last week, I cannot even begin to describe how much I was bursting with pride. It was a truly collaborative achievement: Drama, Dance, Music, Art, Textiles, Information Technology, Media, Design Technology, Front of House, FIGS, Parents, teaching and support staff along with students from across Years 7 - 13, as well as involving primary school children. I was lucky enough to see all three nights and each performance gave me a completely different insight into how our students, staff and parents worked so hard to ensure a really professional production. I was truly torn – wanting to praise and celebrate with students and staff; yet wanting to thank parents and share their views. A really touching part for me was when I watched four different year groups on stage complete a scene; they had such chemistry! I was equally moved when, on the last night, the whole cast had a ‘group hug’ and absolutely everyone was included. All productions travel through a ‘high and low’ process, but I am sure you would agree with me, that the end result was, without doubt, worth it. The students involved learnt so much about themselves and those around them. They have made friends, learnt new skills and developed confidence. So many of the cast spoke on Friday evening, about how they had been inspired and that they had loved every minute of their journey. Indeed, in between the tears, they commented with great enthusiasm, that they would encourage everyone to take part next year and how they had loved working with so many staff and students. It was particularly sad, however, to be saying ‘good bye’ to so many talented Year 13 students – Georgia, Martha, Rebecca and Chris. We will miss their talent and personalities very much. However, I do know that they will be back! It was fantastic to see so many of our ‘old’ students attend our production to support the friends that they had made in previous productions. This is what it is all about!
