2016 Greece - Day 3
Greece Day Three
Today was a national holiday for Greece, so we headed to Nafplio to watch a parade and look around. The Venetian town was full to bursting with excited Greeks in traditional dress, and excited tourists whose mouths were watering at the sight of all the pizzerias. Unfortunately at first, the weather was not on our side, so the umbrellas and rain jackets were donned. We mooched around the many souvenir shops, buying lots of goodies which I'm sure our parents will be thrilled with. My group in particular visited a little crepe restaurant, where we warmed up with waffles, crepes and hot chocolates. For lunch we went to a lovely little restaurant and had a very tasty meal of burgers, bruschetta, pizzas and wraps.
Today it struck us, however, that fame is not just for the heroes of Homer, as we were overwhelmed by a group of four people congratulating us for our Antigone rendition on the previous days. We gushed and almost offered autographs.
We headed back to the hotel, where Mr Giles and a few brave souls embarked on a three mile walk to visit some the ruins of Ancient Assine (mentioned in the Iliad), which we hear offered beautiful views of Tolo.
The evening held an inter-year competitive Class Civ quiz, in which 'Hellas Yes' deservedly won. Well done to Grace, Sam, Imogen and Scarlett.
Our time in Tolo has been great, and I can't wait to see what Olympia holds
